It is that time of year… time to set your new year’s resolutions for 2022!
Setting goals is a great way to encourage self-development and motivate you to advance yourself. In addition to my usual annual goal-setting process, I decided to set some goals for my amateur radio hobby as well. As always, to help make sure I am held accountable, I am choosing to share them with the world here.
I realize that choosing 10 goals is a little overboard, but I really want to push myself in 2022.
Goal 1 – Introduce three new people to the hobby of amateur radio
Before I get to my personal goals, I think one of the most important things I can do is something to help promote the hobby.
Goal 2- Make 8,000 Contacts (no more than 40% on digital modes)
This may sound like a lot of contacts, but the number of POTA activations that I am planning on doing this year should make this an achievable goal. I want to make sure that I limit my ratio of phone to digital contacts so that no more than 40% of my contacts (3200) are via digital modes like FT8/FT4.
Goal 3 – Perform 48 POTA activations (24 new to me parks + 24 other park activations)
I would love to do more than 48 activations in 2022. Shooting for 48 activations puts me on a 4 parks per month schedule which should not be an issue.
Goal 4 – 100% Paper QSL card all DX/Bureau contacts
I don’t always send a paper QSL for every contact that I make. I tend to paper QSL when I find the time. My goal during 2022 is to send a paper QSL card for every DX contact that I make if they accept cards via the bureau.
Goal 5 – Activate “challenge” POTA park
I have a POTA park that I would like to activate that is going to be a considerable challenge. My goal in 2022 is to plan a POTA-expedition to activate it.
Goal 6 – Complete one POTA Kilo and one POTA Repeat Offender award
I list these two as a single goal as more than likely obtaining one is going to get me close to the other.
Goal 7 – Complete Worked All States (C’mon North Dakota!)
Having North Dakota in my skip zone has made this difficult state even harder for me. I am hoping that improving band conditions and keeping myself open on the North Dakota QSO Party weekend will make this easy.
Goal 8 – Complete DXCC (I have 30 countries left)
This is another one that I hope the improving band conditions will help with.
Goal 9 – Complete my Minnesota winter portable rig
I need to complete the new fast deploy portable rig that I have been putting together to keep me on track with the number of POTA activations for the year. This rig will make it easy for me to deploy in the winter months.
Goal 10 – Social Media/Blog/YouTube
While I am working on my other goals for the year, I would like to create 24 new videos and 24 new blog posts that document my ham radio journey.
Please follow me throughout the year to watch my progress on these goals.
What are your ham radio resolutions/goals for the year? Please share below!

Really respectable goals. And a nice picture. But 48 park activations? I would be frightened of myself for months after such a heavy self-motivation thought. 🙂

Thanks, HA3FLT! The 24 “new to me” parks are what scares me the most. I will need to travel a bit to hit “new to me” parks. But I wanted to set a goal that would challenge me a bit. Stop back throughout the year and see how I am doing 🙂
